Pittsburgh is a funny place.
Whether it’s our unique dialect (colloquially known as Pittsburgheze), our unflinching loyalty, or our desperate attempt to hold onto everything from our collective past, we are a funny bunch.
Pittsburghers are fiercely proud of just about everyone and every thing that has ANY kind of tangential relationship to these hills and valleys.
Joe Manganiello? The hulking actor who is was married to Sofia Vergara? Proud Pittsburgher.
Leslie Odom Jr.? Tony award winning singer and recording artist? Okay, he was born and raised in Queens, NY, but hey, he is a CMU alumnus, so that qualifies him to be one of us!
The list is endless (especially when you apply the tangential part!):
Billy Gardell? Check. Wiz Khalifa? “Black ‘n Yellow,” yo! Mark Cuban? He skipped his senior year at suburban Mt. Lebanon High School to study business at Pitt.

Oh, it’s also important to note that by “Pittsburgh,” we’re actually talking about an expanse of the country that stretches from approximately Morgantown, WV, to the south, Erie, PA to the north, Steubenville, OH, to the west, and Altoona, PA to the east. Yep, “Pittsburgh” is a lot bigger than most people ever knew.
