For a while in my life, I fooled myself into thinking I was helping to make the world a better place. For me, my wife, my kids, the people I worked with, the people across the street who I disagree with.
As Liz Cheney wrote this morning, “Citizens across this country, our courts, members of the press, and those serving in our federal, state, and local governments must now be the guardrails of democracy.”
We live in two worlds sharing one land. I still believe what I told Camille, that more people “believe in being good and doing the right thing,” rather than being only about “getting what’s mine, all others be damned.” I still think that, as hard as it seems based on last night’s result. Now, more than ever, it’s upon us to do the right thing for ourselves, our families, our communities, our country, and our world.
We still live in a country that offers great opportunities for those who believe in doing the hard work. I guess I’m sorry that the hard work may be more necessary starting now.
