(should be added to this post’s header:) . . . and, loving it?

So… is it okay for me to appreciate that I have found a part-time gig that I enjoy working at? I’m supposedly retired (for over two years now). But this PT AI stuff is often intoxicating.

Lemme explain (if I can?).

My PT gig involves more “cooler” (distinctive? unusual? surprising?, delightful?, despicable?, and thought-draining) research-intensive projects than I was ever lucky enough to work on in a 40-year career. (I’m getting to “work on”/”exposed to” more wide-ranging concepts, ideas, and communication and world issues than anything I ever really had exposure to. It’s very mind-expanding and in some ways, intimidating. It’s fun, but doing the projects seems somehow meaningful, too.)

Not to mention, I like that I get to decide (so far — fingers crossed) how much I do (which is as much as I choose to do — there is no set time when I need to work), and when I want to do it?

It’s neat*, really … some of the stuff I get to do deep-dive research on has been amazing (okay, a lot of what I get to work on and delve into can also be mundane and uninteresting), but, you see, my employer reminds me repeatedly that I am contractually obligated NOT to talk about project specifics … to a degree (I think? I hope?)?

Anyway, I hope it’s okay that I have scribbled this about my gig, because 1) I don’t really think many people will ever read this post, and 2) fewer will even care what it says.

Interesting Addendum (to me, at least) … I wanted to create a fun image to accompany this post… what I was able to elicit from Gemini and Grok is, well, um, scary. (Much, much scarier than “fun” imo!)

Here is what Grok generated:

Grok's interpretation of funny AI image 1
Grok's interpretation of "funny, silly, provocative image that connotes AI"

And here was Gemini’s, uh,… attempt?

Gemini "funny" AI attempt 1
Gemini 2nd attempt to make funny, provocative AI image

Personally, I was hoping to see something more Mission Impossible/Matrix (and timely) than Harper’s Weekly, and definitely pithier than freaky cartoonbots. But that’s what the bots generated today…

My summation, AI isn’t going to take most of the truly creative users’ jobs. (Not yet, at least!)

* – I really wanted to use a different word than “neat,” but in this instance, it seems particularly relevant (if you look at the many synonyms offered for the word – MANY of them apply to what I get to read about and weigh in on)!
